The Laminex Colour Collection 2027 celebrates the distinctive character of the Australian landscape through a carefully curated palette of new solid colours and Australian Native Woodgrains. Developed in collaboration with BUNSTON, the collection comes to life across six interiors, showcasing its versatility across a range of settings.
From kitchens and living spaces to public areas, each palette demonstrates how the collection can be applied to create environments with their own distinct character. This guide explores the design thinking behind each project, offering practical ideas for combining Laminex decors, complementary materials and carefully considered details to create interiors that feel cohesive, welcoming and enduring.
In the City Kitchen
Designed as an extension to an inner-city terrace, the In the City Kitchen explores how a restrained palette can create warmth, character and cohesion. Rather than relying on contrast, Bunston Studio layers closely related tones and natural textures to create a space that feels calm, generous and quietly inviting.
Laminex Sunbaked establishes the dominant tone, while Laminex Desert Dune gently softens the palette. Laminex Raw Bluegum TrueScaleTM in AbsoluteGrain® introduces natural timber texture, balancing the solid colours and grounding the island as the social heart of the kitchen. Used more sparingly, Laminex Red Centre is a moment of depth within the open shelving, providing a richer note within an otherwise restrained palette—lending itself to a morning espresso or an evening Negroni.
By the River Kitchen
Set within a rural landscape, the By the River Kitchen takes its cues from the colours and materials that surround it. Soft earth tones, Australian woodgrains and natural stone inform a palette that feels grounded, creating an interior that sits comfortably within its setting.
Laminex Desert Dune establishes a warm foundation, while the soft pink tones of Laminex Nullarbor Drift bring gentle colour to the surrounding joinery. Laminex Smoked Bluegum TrueScale™ in AbsoluteGrain® finish brings idiosyncratic texture and tone to the island drawers and pantry internals, rewarding the closest of interactions. Softer touches of Laminex Pale Honey brighten the pantry, while Brushed Stainless Steel provides a crisp, understated finish that quietly complements the palette, completing a composition inspired by the colours and textures of the surrounding landscape.

As Zac explains, every project begins by considering how each material relates to the next. That thinking extends well beyond the joinery. The basalt island base draws on the same language as the bluestone crazy paving underfoot, reinforcing the relationship between the architecture, its materials and the surrounding landscape. Honey-toned blown glass lighting, solid timber detailing and natural finishes continue that same quiet design language throughout the home.
On the Coast Kitchen
The contemporary coastal kitchen embraces a refined material palette, allowing the warmth and character of the joinery to become the hero of the space. Flooring, benchtops and wall finishes remain deliberately understated, creating a calm backdrop that lets the woodgrain take centre stage.
Laminex Calm Bluegum TrueScale™ in AbsoluteGrain® establishes the defining material throughout the kitchen, wrapping the expansive joinery in bookmatched woodgrain. Committing to a single décor creates clarity, allowing its natural warmth and texture to shape the character of the space.

One of the simplest ways to create a cohesive material palette is to keep the undertones consistent. If a timber has warm golden undertones, pair it with other warm timbers and earthy solids within the same family. Different depths and textures add interest, but the underlying warmth should always relate. With that foundation in place, cooler materials such as stainless or stone can be introduced to provide balance and contrast without disrupting the overall composition. Here, warm woodgrains soften the cool, matte concrete finishes, creating a space that feels both refined and welcoming. Laminex Smoked Bluegum TrueScale™ in AbsoluteGrain® introduces depth to the concealed bar, while Laminex Burnt Ochre adds a rich earthy accent through the shelving and wine storage.
A place to Reset
The hardest-working spaces in a home often ask the most of the materials within them. Designed to withstand daily wear while maintaining a calm and welcoming atmosphere, this mudroom demonstrates how thoughtful decisions around form and function can transform a purely practical room into one that feels considered from every angle.
Laminex Raw Spotted Gum TrueScaleTM in AbsoluteGrain® finish brings warmth and natural character to the cabinetry, while Laminex HPL Scribbly Gum enables the softly curved splashback and benchtop that define the room. Rather than acting as a decorative feature, the curves soften movement through the space, remove hard corners and create a gentler transition between surfaces. Burnished concrete flooring extends into matching concrete kickers, a practical detail that protects the joinery while reinforcing the room's honest, understated material palette. Paired with stainless steel fixtures, the restrained selection balances durability with warmth, creating a space where every material has a clear purpose.
A place to Lounge
Laminex Red Centre sets the tone for this immersive lounge, layering its richly pigmented colour across joinery, walls and furnishings to create a space that feels confident and cohesive. Subtle shifts in materiality, texture and form create depth, allowing each element to stand on its own while maintaining a cohesive whole.
Inspired by the rich ochre earth of Australia's central deserts, Laminex Red Centre establishes a grounded, architectural foundation throughout the space. The colour-drenched palette is reinforced by matching Terra Firma by Krause Bricks, creating an almost monolithic presence that feels both sculptural and enduring. This strong architectural language is carried through the geometric drawer fronts, whose precision creates a deliberate counterpoint to the sweeping curves.
Stainless steel accents, blown glass sconces and aluminium lighting introduce moments of reflection, allowing light to reveal the shadow and depth that lend the space its quiet sense of gravitas. Inside the cabinetry, Laminex Kalamata becomes the final layer of the composition—an unexpected moment that rewards closer inspection without ever disrupting the overall palette.
A place to Inspire
The most successful learning environments rarely announce themselves. Instead, they quietly create the conditions where curiosity, conversation and confidence can grow naturally. Drawing on the warmth and familiarity of residential interiors, the space feels welcoming rather than institutional, encouraging people to settle in, connect and engage.
Laminex Calm Bluegum TrueScaleTM in AbsoluteGrain® finish establishes the natural timber character that sets the tone for the space, while Laminex Nullarbor Drift carries a soft, earthy palette across the joinery, lounge and custom table. Rather than competing for attention, each surface supports the next, creating a cohesive environment where warmth is built through repetition, texture and material continuity.

Inside the shelving, Laminex Nullarbor Drift continues the palette beyond the visible surfaces, creating subtle moments of warmth that reward closer inspection and reinforce the room's residential character. Like education itself, great learning environments aren't created by one defining gesture, but by a series of thoughtful decisions that work together.
The learning environments we remember most are rarely defined by the lessons themselves, but by the spaces that quietly invited us to be curious.
